The neighbourhood
IJsbaanpad is a street in Amsterdam-Zuid, between Amstelveenseweg and the Schinkel.
The Amsterdamsche IJsclub (AIJC) used a site near the Schinkel, which was flooded in winter to create an ice surface. The road there was therefore named IJsbaanpad in 1949.
At the end of IJsbaanpad is the Nieuwe Meersluis or Schinkel lock, which connects Schinkel with Nieuwe Meer.
Near this lock are houseboats ("woonarken"), most of them located at jetties. In the first half of the 20th century, the Schinkelbad, a wooden outdoor swimming pool, was located at this spot in the river.
Near a plateau on the canalised river is the sculpture Water, earth, air by Jan Meefout.
